Origins of the tour
The tour was devised by Alex Noble, who lectures in tourism at a leading UK university. Alex has been fascinated by the Silk Road for many years, and has lived and worked in China, travelling widely in the course of his work there. In 2003 he travelled the route of this trip with a group of friends, and this trip benefits significantly from the experience of that journey.

Alex has also written this brochure, which he update on-line from time to time with additional information and perhaps some more pictures, so do keep an eye on it.

Quality of service.

CTSIC has a close association with the major Chinese National tour operators. In addition to national facilities, there are regional offices in all major tourism centres in China, who will supply very knowledgeable local guides to look after the party at each of its ports of call. In addition, an experienced national guide will accompany the party throughout the trip, thus making sure that the party is well looked after.

Alex Noble welcomes queries about travelling along the Chinese section of the Silk Road, and will be happy to give advice or assistance by telephone or e-mail to those who have booked places on the tour or are seriously considering doing so. It would be helpful if queries relating to this tour could go in the first instance to Christina Zhang at CTSIC, but Alex may be contacted direct if preferred at

We are committed to ensuring that you have an enjoyable and illuminating experience of China, and we take our reputation for high quality service very seriously.
